In Atlanta, the Druid Hills Olmsted Celebration Committee has representatives from 9 local organizations who are planning several exciting events the week of his birthday.

From awesome music and lots of activities for the kiddos to do, Open Streets Emory Village was a great time for all that attended. It was definitely one of the highlights of the afternoon! From Heaton Park's maintenance and creating new switchbacks to landscaping help and street sign cleaning, thank you to all who came to spruce up the neighborhood. DHCA is excited to begin by sharing our strategic plan.
Thanks to the hundreds of members for supporting our efforts and shaping this vision. We hope you see reflections of your insights and recommendations throughout our plan. This plan sharpens our focus and defines the impact we will aim to achieve over the next five years and we encourage our neighbors to take ownership by getting involved. Beyond that, the preservation planner assists other agencies of state and county government where their duties intersect with historic preservation, and provides assistance to individuals and private organizations interested in researching and preserving the history of the DeKalb County.
The preservation commission is made up of seven residents of the county, appointed by the Board of Commissioners and the Chief Executive Officer of the county. The preservation commissions are volunteers and receive no compensation. DeKalb County currently has two locally designated districts. This district is based around a number of related suburbs developed in the first half of the twentieth century. The second district is primarily concerned with the preservation of archeological sites.
This is the Soapstone Ridge Historic District, located in the southwest corner of the country. Depending on where the homeowner lives, the DeKalb County Historic District guidelines or the City of Atlanta Landmark District zoning laws will be used in evaluating his or her application.
This process protects Druid Hills and its property owners. It prevents construction and alterations that may not be in keeping with the historic architecture and streetscape of Druid Hills.
