No, create an account now. Mine has been blown for ever. Dirty yes but no inspection here. Mine is actually causing the engine to under perform at mid range RPM's, pretty much the whole reason I found out about the problem in the first place. What I am learning in the process is that it can cause some pretty major engine damage if not addressed one way or the other.

If this was my 89, I would just put headers, a flow exhaust and cat on it for the same price and call it a day. It would prolly run fine with the aftermarket but yeah, it's just a band-aid in the long run. I guess one of the biggest reasons to replace with OEM is resale value. If you're planning on driving the truck into the ground it's less of an issue. If your going through cats quickly its probably a sign your car isn't running right.

Get a good universal cat like carsound. Do a tune up, change the o2's and you should be fine. It'll work for an older vehicle but not for one with a sophisticated engine management system like a modern toy. But yeah, it may be a sign that you're not running properly. If you're burning oil or getting incomplete combustion it'll definitely fuck up your cats.

Cat maintenance? Just make sure you do oil, oil filter, fuel filter and air filter changes regularly. Don't to the deck plat mod. Keep shit OUT of the engine. My 4Runner has the original cat that was put in it back in , and has over , miles on it. SUre the OE stuff is expensive, but it lasts. I have a FJ40 that I replaced the original master cylinder with an after market rebuilt unit.

It would go bad every 6 months. Has not been a problem since. Originally Posted by kidwoo. My 89 went on the original cat. Originally Posted by AlpenChronicHabitual. Toyota trucks have been getting cats ripped-off around commuter parking lots here in SoCal.

A co-worker had their's ripped off in a parking lot while they were shopping! What can be done to make this a little harder to do? What makes these trucks more vulnerable than full-size trucks?
